The needle case with pincushion is dressed up as a traditional Japanese Kokeshi, a wooden doll with no arms or legs and simple features. The top of the tube can be unscrewed, after which the ball of yarn and the 3 Meboso needles become visible. Indeed, the wool prevents the needles from rusting quickly. Thanks to a magnet at the bottom, fallen needles can be quickly picked up. The Kokeshi is handmade from Mizuki (dogwood) wood, is hand painted, 90mm high and has a diameter of 30mm. The 3 Meboso needles are 36.4 mm long and 0.71 mm thick.
The Mizuhiki needle threader is decorated with a traditional braided knot. Mizuhiki is an ancient Japanese art form used for gift wrapping, in which a decorative paper cord is created by twisting washi paper. The knot is shaped like a plum blossom, a flower full of symbolism. It is said to bring good luck, build strong bonds and ward off evil. The needle threader is 4.2cm long and 2.8cm wide.
The carved wooden thread spool with white polyester thread completes this set.
